In addition to magic items created with spells, some substances have innate special properties. If you make a suit of armor or weapon out a special material, it will often have a minor benefit that is independent of further Item Enchantments or Item Enhancements.
Moonstone is one such material. It can only be used in primarily metal armors, weapons, or jewelry. It requires Smithing Rank 3 to utilize as an alternate material in a crafting recipe. If successfully used, weapons and armor gain the following benefits:
Weapons: Any metal weapon made with Moonstone has an exceptional hardness, which can be sharpened or strengthened beyond normal steel. Weapons made of Moonstone grant their wielder a +1 bonus to their attack roll with the weapon. Additionally Moonstone weapons count as “Silvered” for purposes of overcoming damage resistance.
Armors: Any metal armor made with Moonstone has a natural resistance to the magics of the Courts of Dark and Light. As Moonstone is often spawned deep in the heart of The Land, it resists that which comes from far above or far below. Armors made of Moonstone grant a +2 bonus to AC against attacks made by Celestials or Fiends against the wearer.
All other physical factors, such as weight and proficiency, are the same as the base item. The cost of these items is 100 gold above the base cost of a weapon, and 150% of the base cost of the armor. This is an Uncommon Smithing Base.
