Explosives is a subskill of Alchemy that focuses on the creation and use of volatile mixtures designed to release destructive force. This includes bombs, flash devices, concussive charges, and unstable compounds that can be weaponized in combat or used to manipulate the battlefield. Those skilled in Explosives understand not only how to create devastation, but how to control it—turning raw alchemical power into precise tools of destruction.

Each rank in Explosives grants a +1 bonus to Alchemy checks when creating, modifying, or safely handling explosive or volatile substances. This bonus applies when crafting damaging alchemical items, increasing their stability, or repurposing them for controlled effects such as breaching, distraction, or area denial. Additionally, there are Alchemical Recipes that require a specific rank in Explosives.

Advancing in the Explosives Subskill also givese these additional benefits:

  • At 10 Ranks in Explosives, your experience with blast timing allows you to minimize collateral damage. You gain the Controlled Detonation ability. When you use an explosive, you may designate a number of targets up to your ranks in Explosives who take half damage from the effect. Additionally, you gain a +10 bonus to checks to resist your own explosive effects.
  • At 20 Ranks in Explosives you find mundane, everyday uses for explosives. You gain the Alternate Application ability, which allows you to creatively find ways to add explosives to aid another’s Skill Check. When you do so. it gives them a bonus to their roll equal to your ranks in Explosives, in addition to normal aid bonuses.
  • At 30 Ranks in Explosives you know the best place to plant your explosives on a target. You gain the Shaped Charge ability, which lets you take explsoves meant for a larget area – more than five feet – and adjust it as a bonus action and have it do double damage to a single target.
