This small glass orb seems to either reflect light or absorb light, depending on how you hold it. If held in a hand, the wielder can use an Action to cause this orb can shed bright light up to 40 feet, and dim light an additional 40 feet. The wielder can also reduce the area or stop the light as an Action.
Also the wielder can use the Orb to cast the Blindness effect of a Blindness/Deafness spell on a target within 30 feet; the Saving Throw DC is 12 for this effect. Alternatively, the holder of the Orb can use it to cast the Darkness spell at 2nd level centered on the Orb; the holder must maintain concentration on the spell. Darkness also suppresses the Bright/Dim light effect of the orb while it is being maintained. If the Orb leaves the caster’s hand for any reason, either spell’s effect is ended. Once the Blindness or Darkness effect is used, neither can be used again until after a Long Rest.
