Animal Husbandry

Animal Husbandry is a subskill of Animal Handling that focuses on the care, management, and coordination of multiple domesticated or bonded creatures. This includes maintaining their health, training them to work together, and ensuring they remain responsive in both travel and combat situations. Those skilled in Animal Husbandry can support a small group of animals rather than relying on a single companion, turning them into a coordinated and reliable force.

Each rank in Animal Husbandry grants a +1 bonus to Animal Handling checks when caring for, commanding, or managing multiple animals at once. This bonus applies when maintaining control of companions, directing them in stressful situations, or ensuring their effectiveness over extended periods.

Advancing in the Animal Husbandry Subskill also givese these additional benefits:

• At 10 Ranks in Animal Husbandry, your animal companions know how to work better with you. You gain the Coordinated Pack ability. When your animal companion attacks a target you already attacked in the same round, it gains a bonus to its Accuracy checks against the target equal to your ranks in Animal Husbandry.
• At 20 Ranks in Animal Husbandry you understand how to take care of an animal companion better than most. You gain the Hearty Companion ability. This ability increases your companion’s Health by an amount equal to your ranks in Animal Husbandry, up to a maximum of twice its normal Health. Additionally when making a Fortitude check to end Ongoing damage, it gains a bonus equal to your ranks in Animal Husbandry.
• At 30 Ranks in Animal Husbandry your animal companion has learned how to be more defensive. You gain the Evasive Companion ability, which strengthens the defenses of your companion. While it is within 30 feet of you, your animal companion’s Dodge and Mental values gain a bonus equal to Half of your ranks in Animal Husbandry (Rounded Down). Remember that your animal companion’s Armor Value gains a bonus equal to half their Dodge Value, so this effectively increases its AV as well.
