Concentration is a Common skill, and is modified by your Constutition.
The Concentration skill represents your ability to endure hardship, maintain focus, and push through physical and mental challenges. Whether you’re resisting the effects of pain, staying conscious through exhaustion, or ignoring distractions in a high-stakes situation, Concentration is your go-to skill. It is also used for general checks that require exceptional Constitution.
Anyone can perform the Concentrate action, even without ranks in the Concentration skill. However, those who invest in the Concentration skill gain enhanced benefits. For reference, here is the Concentrate action:
Concentrate: When you take the Concentrate action as your Combat Action, you forego all offensive and magical efforts, focusing entirely on restoring your reserves and fortifying your defenses. Until the start of your next turn, you cannot attack, use abilities, or cast spells. Instead, you regain Mana and Stamina equal to your ranks in Concentration, and your Dodge Value and Mental Value increase by the same amount until the start of your next turn.
As your skill in Concentration grows, you will gain additional benefits from it.
Initiate (Ranks 10-19):
At this rank, your mental and physical focus begin to solidify into reliable discipline. When maintaining an ongoing spell or effect that requires sustained concentration, you may roll twice and take the better result. This benefit also applies to Magical Feedback checks.
Apprentice (Ranks 20-34):
As an Apprentice, your ability to resist effects that would disrupt your focus becomes evident. You gain the Secured Mind ability:
Secured Mind: When you are targeted by an attack or effect that would Daze, Enthrall, Incapacitate, or Stun you, you can use your Reaction to make a Concentration check. If your check exceeds the Accuracy roll or effect DC, you become immune to the specified conditions from that attack. Other consequences, such as damage or forced movement, are unaffected.
Journeyman (Ranks 35-59):
At this level, your steadfast focus begins to sustain your life force. Once per day, when you are reduced to 0 Health, you immediately recover Health equal to your ranks in Concentration. This triggers automatically as a free action, even if you are incapable of acting. This ability refreshes after a Long Rest.
Adept (Ranks 60-79):
As an Adept, your resilience reaches exceptional levels. When you use the Concentrate action, you also regain Health equal to your ranks in Concentration. Additionally, your Secured Mind ability now also protects against attacks that would advance a Fatigued condition.
Master (Ranks 80-99):
At the pinnacle of Concentration, your focus surpasses the limits of mortal endurance. You gain immunity to effects that would render you Unconscious from non-magical sources, such as suffocation or extreme fatigue. Furthermore, once per day, when you are subjected to an effect or attack that would instantly kill you, you automatically succeed on the required saving throw or check. This ability refreshes after a Long Rest. Lastly, your Maximum Health increases by an amount equal to 1/10th of your ranks in Concentration.
All of these bonuses are cumulative.
