Construction is a Common skill, and is modified by your Strength.

Construction represents a character’s knowledge of architecture, engineering, and structural design. This skill is invaluable for evaluating the integrity of buildings and infrastructure, such as determining whether an old bridge can safely bear weight or identifying weak points in a defensive wall. Beyond assessment, Construction also allows characters to design and build structures, whether it’s crafting barricades to fend off an attack, erecting fortifications to secure a stronghold, or repairing damage to a key location. Construction provides practical benefits in both exploration and combat, as it offers insight into utilizing the environment to a party’s advantage.

A unique facet of the Construction skill is its application to animated constructs, such as golems or siege engines. Characters with this skill can analyze such creations to uncover their vulnerabilities, gaining a critical edge in combat or repair scenarios. This ability to interpret and manipulate structural principles makes Construction a versatile tool, blending problem-solving with creativity. Whether planning a fortified encampment, disabling an enemy’s siege weapon, or identifying the stress points of a collapsing dungeon, Construction allows characters to shape the world around them—both figuratively and literally. In The Land, where ingenuity often triumphs over brute strength, those who master Construction hold the power to build, protect, and destroy.

As your skill in Construction grows, you will gain additional benefits from it.

Increased Affinity: When you first attain a new title in Construction (Initiate or Apprentice), you gain a 25% Affinity increase in either the Carpentry, Construction, Masonry, or Materials Skills. You can gain this affinity even if you did not have a previous Affinity Bonus or Ranks in the chosen skill.

Initiate (Ranks 10-19):
Structural Eye: You know when something is sturdy, or not. You know when cracks in the walls don’t seem natural, even if you aren’t paying attention. You gain a bonus to your defenses against attacks made against you by physical traps and natural hazards equal to your ranks in Construction, and you gain a bonus to checks made to bypass natural hazards equal to your ranks in Construction.

Apprentice (Ranks 20-34):
Visible Joints: You know the physics of constructed objects, and know their movements have limitations. Any Construct type creature that attacks you suffers a penalty to its attack rolls equal to your ranks in Construction.

All of these bonuses are cumulative.
