Conversation is a Common skill, and is modified your Charisma.
Conversation reflects a character’s ability to navigate social situations with charm, tact, and persuasive speech. Whether negotiating with a wary merchant, brokering peace between feuding factions, or inspiring a crowd to action, Conversation is the art of influencing others through dialogue and diplomacy. This skill empowers characters to sway opinions, resolve conflicts, or gain valuable allies, making it a cornerstone for adventurers who prefer words over weapons. Success with Conversation often depends on understanding the motivations and emotions of those involved, as well as presenting arguments in a way that resonates with their values.
The Conversation skill opens countless opportunities for creative roleplay and impactful storytelling. A skilled conversationalist can defuse tense encounters, rally support for a cause, or uncover hidden truths through subtle questioning. While its primary focus is persuasion, the skill can also be used to manipulate, charm, or deceive, depending on the character’s intentions and approach. As your skill in Conversation grows, you will gain additional benefits from it.
Increased Affinity: When you first attain a new title in Conversation (Initiate or Apprentice), you gain a 25% Affinity increase in either the Conversation, Diplomacy, Innuendo, or Lead from the Front skills. You can gain this affinity even if you did not have a previous Affinity Bonus or Ranks in the chosen skill.
Initiate (Ranks 10-19):
“What I meant to say…”: You know when your words aren’t landing as they should be. Once per game, when you make a Conversation check and dislike the result, you may reroll it, but you must take the second result.
Apprentice (Ranks 20-34):
“What they meant…”: You understand the flow of a conversation, and understand when things are not going how they need to. Once per game, you may roll a Conversation check and replace an nearby ally’s roll with your result, assuming you have the ability to communicate with the involved parties.
All of these bonuses are cumulative.
