Investigation is a Common skill, and is modified by your Intelligence.

Investigation is a character’s ability to actively search for specific clues and piece together information to solve problems or unravel mysteries. This skill is essential for situations that require focused attention and logical reasoning, such as uncovering hidden evidence at a crime scene, deciphering a cryptic puzzle, or tracking down the origins of a mysterious artifact. Unlike skills based on instinct or perception, Investigation involves deliberate actions: combing through records, analyzing objects, or asking targeted questions to uncover the truth.

The Investigation skill is invaluable in both roleplay and exploration contexts. Characters skilled in Investigation excel at detecting small but crucial details that others might overlook, like identifying the unique markings of a rare poison, spotting inconsistencies in a suspect’s story, or reconstructing events from fragmented clues.

As your skill in Investigation grows, you will gain additional benefits from it.

Increased Affinity: When you first attain a new title in Investigation (Initiate or Apprentice), you gain a 25% Affinity increase in either the Deduction, Investigation, or Search. You can gain this affinity even if you did not have a previous Affinity Bonus or Ranks in the chosen skill.

Initiate (Ranks 10-19):
Just a Hunch: Once per game, when you or an ally fails a check to investigate a situation (it does not have to be with the Investigation skill), you may roll an Investigation check and substitute your check result for the failed roll.

Apprentice (Ranks 20-34):
Deductive Biology: Whenever you make a check to determine knowledge about a creature, you may add your ranks in Investigation to the roll as a bonus.

All of these bonuses are cumulative.
