Jumping is a subskill of Athletics that focuses on explosive movement, allowing a character to leap across gaps, scale vertical obstacles, and control their descent. This includes both horizontal and vertical jumps, as well as controlled landings in dangerous terrain. Those skilled in Jumping can traverse environments others cannot, turning mobility into both an offensive and defensive advantage.
Each rank in Jumping grants a +1 bonus to Athletics checks when performing jumps, vaulting obstacles, or reducing fall impact. This bonus applies when attempting to clear distance, gain height, or safely land from a fall.
Advancing in the Jumping Subskill also givese these additional benefits:
- At 10 Ranks in Jumping, you are better at landing after a jump than most. You gain the Soft Landing ability. When you take fall damage, reduce the effective fall distance by one foot per rank in Jumping. Additionally, you gain a bonus to Balance checks made to offset the effects of falling equal to your ranks in Jumping.
- At 20 Ranks in Jumping, you understand how to manipulate your body mid-flight. You gain the Jump Lean ability. By reducing your jumping distance by five feet, you may make a right or left shift in your jumping mid-air, allowing you to avoid obstacles in your jumping path.
- At 30 Ranks in Jumping, you can make a Reactive Leap. When you are not on solid surface (ie, jumping or falling), but adjacent to a vertical surface (like a cliff), you can use your reaction to make a Jumping check to jump off that surface, possibly upwards. This is very usefull when you are pushed off a cliff, or want to make a double jump on your turn.
