Metagaming is a Common skill, and is modified by your Luck. Metagaming represents a character’s uncanny ability to grasp knowledge or insights that they logically should not possess, as if drawing upon experiences from another life or a reality beyond their own. This skill allows characters to intuitively understand traps, combat tactics, or environmental hazards they have never encountered—or even recognize an enemy’s weaknesses before seeing them in action. Whether attributed to a sense of déjà vu, visions from a past life, or an unexplainable gut instinct, Metagaming creates opportunities for characters to act with uncanny foresight.
The Metagaming skill adds a layer of unpredictability and creativity to gameplay. It can be used to justify a character’s sudden insight into solving a puzzle, devising a countermeasure to an unseen threat, or recalling information about a hidden danger. In The Land, where the lines between reality, memory, and imagination blur, Metagaming gives players a unique tool to navigate challenges that seem insurmountable, offering a glimpse into the unknown and unexplained.
As your skill in Metagaming grows, you will gain additional benefits from it.
Increased Affinity: When you first attain a new title in Metagaming (Initiate or Apprentice), you gain a 25% Affinity increase in either the Analyze, Metagaming, or Threat Scaling Skills. You can gain this affinity even if you did not have a previous Affinity Bonus or Ranks in the chosen skill.
Initiate (Ranks 10-19): Faint Memory: Once per game, when you or an ally that can hear you makes a Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, or Luck based skill check and dislikes the result, you can instead roll a Metagaming check and substitute your roll for the chosen roll.
Apprentice (Ranks 20-34): Similar Memory: Once per game, if you are having a problem comprehending a situation or trying to figure out how to solve a problem, you may ask your Auditor to compare it to a modern pop culture reference. They should do so to the best of their ability.
All of these bonuses are cumulative.
